How is coaching different from non-directive psychotherapy or counselling?

Coaching is not counselling or psychotherapy.

In general, coaching is concerned with future goals and achievement and only incidentally with psychological history or problems. Coaches are not equipped to diagnose or resolve psychological problems. Coaches assist clients to establish their personal goals and then support the client in achieving the goals.

Coaching focuses on your desired outcomes in the future and allows self-discovery to provide the answers for you.

How long might it take to see results from coaching?

Research shows that people can have amazing results in the first month of coaching and some huge increases in confidence, energy, and performance within six months. After the first six months the coachee may still improve although the trajectory is lower often because the coachee is deepening the learning, which may not be as readily apparent to others.

Performance coaching is coaching with reference to achievement against performance criteria. The performance criteria may be self-designed, or adopted based on organisational requirements. Yes, at Kool Results on-going support is very important to ensure your coaching program produces the results that you set for yourself. As with all our programs this is very flexible. E-mail, phone and regular update sessions are all ways we can support you during your program.

  • E-mail is preferred for non-urgent matters as your coach can answer your questions usually within 24 hours.
  • Phone may be more appropriate for urgent matters. Please phone and we will answer your questions over the phone. If your coach is busy when you phone they will return your call as soon as possible.
  • Regular sessions after your coaching program can be arranged if this best suits your needs. For example, a 1 hour session each month to check-in to see if your results are as expected and answer any questions. This can also be done over the phone.

Is coaching regulated?

Yes, the International Coaching Federation (ICF) sets rigorous standards globally. It monitors the competencies and ethics of coaches worldwide. Kool Results is a member of the ICF and Julianne is also a graduate of CoachU and a member of Coachville.

Is there some context in which coaching can be placed for me?

Your coach focuses on your whole person. They challenge you & take the time to find out what winning in life means to you. Your coach is your personal partner in living the life you want, personally & professionally. He or she is someone you place your trust in to help you hold yourself accountable for your life and to make sure you really do live up to your full potential.

What about people who are already doing great things in their lives. Why would they want a coach?

There are people who don't use a coach as a resource. They are already doing what they most enjoy. They are not tolerating anything. Their life is effortless. They are already on their way to being financially independent within the next 15 years. They already have what they most want.

Coaches have discovered that even these people want to expect more out of their lives. They usually want to have a resource available to help them venture into areas not looked at yet. This is where a coach steps in.

Can I hire a coach just for a short-term, special project?

Absolutely! Some clients hire a coach to help them accomplish specific goals or projects. Continuing to work with a coach is not unusual for these clients because new goals and projects come up because of their successes.

It's about making plans, *AND* carrying them out each and every week. You'll be given "assignments", things that you agree to do between the calls that will help move you closer to where you want to be.

A three to six month commitment is recommended in order to experience the benefits of coaching. You are welcome to stop immediately if coaching is not working for you.
